leave the light on...
i'll never give up on you.
leave the light on...
for me too..

i just talked to my friend jackie...and her and her bf broke up. it made me sad...they were one of those couples where you looked at them and thought, they're going to make it. who knows, maybe later on in life they will get back together...they love each other. but as i was talking to her, i was listening to that song...and i had a split brain on the matter. on one hand, the healthy thing to do would be to move on and make her life happy and not worry about him...but the other half of me says it's silly for them to be apart like this if they love one another, and would be willing to both compromise and work things out. *sigh* this made me blue.. =(

Sondre Lerche...add him to your list of absolutely incredible musicians =) *sigh*
The concert tonight was indeed magical. He came out solo with his trusty blue guitar and began bobbing his head and strumming his melodies. he did an amazing amount of new songs =) and some absolute favorites with opportunities for us to sing along. He's funny, adorable beyond belief, his voice is so serene and his guitar skills are incredible!!
He was doing autographs after the show and ah, I shook his hand with a "hi, i'm lisa, it's great to meet you" and he shook back with a "nice to meet you, i'm sondre"...*sigh* I rambled some jargon about how he's even better live than on the album and he responded with absolute appretiation, thanking me twice over for the high compliment...what a sweetheart =) Then he signed his name and said, "lisa, right" while writing my name up top. my only sadness is that the troubadour allows pocket cameras and I being the fool that I am did not bring one =..( but, we must go see another concert at the troubadour, it is an awesome venue - very personal =)!!
Kress...no worries, i found someone to take your place =) i wish you could have been there though, it wasn't the same w/o my concert buddy!! i hope you're feeling better though!!
Albert...feel better!! flu's are not good news =(
Kim...hope the gambling and drunkeness are going well =)
gunbound, yes, you all are talking about this crazy game...i will have to join these festivities soon =) so...bring it on!! =)

happy birthday to kimmy....good gracious, i hope you return from vegas somewhat sober =)
and thanks hunny for fixing my computer! i heart you so much! =)
i guess you all knew that i had a cold this past week...well, it looked as if it might go away on thanksgiving, but on thanksgiving night, my throat felt like it was swelling shut...next day my throat hurt like hell, i had chills, bodyaches and the worst headache ever...in addition to my horrid cough. i think i have the flu now...without the fever. i feel like utter crap...and i got nothing done this long weekend because i've been in bed sick. =( tomorrow i hope i feel better because i need to go to school monday...boooo this holiday. it was not one to be thankful for. =T

I hope all of you have fun doing whatever it is that you're doing. I will be resting and recuperating. Hopeuflly it'll go away soon... very very soon....

good day everyone!! =)
i just got about 3 hours of sleep, but i am wide awake and very delighted today... =)
last nite was honestly one of THE BEST SHOWS i have been to...a top 3 concert...and let's face it, in the last 6-8 months, i've been to a lot of shows...hehe. first off, i hope no one was bothered that i asked stephanie to hang out with us...so sad to go to such a great concert by yourself...as jesse would say, we need to share the love.. =) she turned out to be totally cool...and how freaky that she went to the same shows that we did. you're right lisa...she did seem to be familiar people...hehe. but it's a great thing that we befriended her because she took some pictures for us when we didn't have a camera...yay! =)
big city rock was....odd. i mean, i think this is the first time in a long time where i didn't really like the opener...but that last song was freaking cool. they really did sound like a bad cluster of 80's bands...but sometimes things get to the point where they are so bad, but it's so good...hehe =) and that last song...whew...so bad, it was good...i had no idea people still had those keyboard/guitar crappy casio things...hehe. makes me think of a strongbad email... =)
gavin degraw...might i just say...his set was sooooo good. =) absolute favorites...of course..follow through, chariot & let's get it on i loved the part where he stood on top of the speaker...and when he sang to the crowd without the microphone... =) his energy and smile are so infectious, you can't help but feel that energy infused in you. although the set seemed a little short and he played *let's get it on* again...it was so awesome. i can't imagine him putting on a bad show ever...
maroon 5...i can also safely say that i can't imagine them putting on a bad show ever either...i heart them!! =) they played everything i think...except sweetest goodbye. i thought to myself right at the end...it would be great to end the show on sweetest goodbye...but i am actually much, much happier on how it did end. =) first of all, how odd how that random girl came up and kissed mickey, adam and james....hehe. that was hilarious...and completely messed adam up...but that was so great. =) adam had a new haircut...and he's still hot...hehe...and jesse...woot...him and his hat. he is the epitome of cool....he is so peaceful and happy... =) it's no secret that sunday morning is my favorite off the album...although i love all the songs on the album. i know that secret is one of their favorites to perform and that was so awesome last night. for the encore...damn the crowd...they were not screaming loud enough. for a moment i thought they might be reluctant to come out since the crowd wasn't throwing a fit. however, they did come out and that was so freaking awesome...i loved when they played frontin' by pharrell...it was great in LA and it was so awesome last nite. and then...to end the show on highway to hell by ac/dc...that was THE BEST!! so much energy from everyone...and adam playing drums while ryan sang and played guitar...omg, soo cool!! i've never seen them do that before...man, adam can really play those drums! and ryan...i never expected that out of him...he's usually so quiet. =) and james tearing apart his guitar...it was just a great, great, great way to end things... =) i heart maroon 5!! =)
so afterwards, the signing....mr. gavin degraw...you are the best! how awesome was it that he actually stayed out that entire time to sign and meet the fans... =) he was so sweet...he called me dear a few times...he's so cute, him and his accent. i told him how excited i was to meet him and when i first met him...he said, hi i'm gavin...well, of course he is! =) i said, hi i'm kressler...then he repeated my name and said it was nice to meet me...and i asked if he wouldn't mind taking a picture and he said of course he wouldn't mind...hehe. that was so cool...he had his arm around me in the picture...woot. lisa! i want a copy...please!! =) he was so cool...i think the third time you guys went to talk to him i said that we loved him or his music...and he said thank you dear. =) i heart gavin degraw!! =)
that was awesome...and kim & lisa, you two are funny. hehe...it was a nearly perfect nite...it would have been perfect if we met maroon 5...but it's ok. we have to catch a show where they open for someone, and then we will meet them for sure. darn us for not going out at the mayer irvine show for during counting crows...they were wandering around!! we could have befriended them at the snack bar! =)
so last nite, when we came home...i was obviously in a great mood. i graded my tests and went to bed at 330am...and woke up at 7...hehe. and i am wide awake...=) so i hope everyone has a lovely day...and spreads the love =)

ok, so i'm watching average joe tonite...and two occurrences...occurred. =)
1) during commercials, they advertise the show las vegas...and used maroon5's *harder to breathe* - so yay! it's so cool to hear they are getting more exposure.
2) on average joe, i guess they just added the "hot" guys in addition to the average guys...and there is a HOT guy on there...i mean, absolutely cute..hehe. and he is from...IRVINE, CA. wth? where was this guy in all the years we were in irvine? and not asian..hehe. =) anyways, i don't know if she is going to pick him to stay, but i think she will. [this is the first time i've seen this show, and i didn't even watch from the beginning...and it's still on. i'm curious to see if he will stay..hehe]

ooh...also, i know we are all going to the maroon5 concert tomorrow, but if by chance you do not buy anything tomorrow and find something you like at their online store, as a maroon5 fan club member...woot...i get 50% off all items in their online store until the end of the year...so let me know if you would like to purchase. =)
Aww... poor Kress, I wasn't even aware that you were remotely sub-weather at all. Hope you get better soon. Maroon 5 is less than 2 days away. Load up on that vitamin c!! BTW, that kid you gave the detention to was a little punk. Dude, trying to bring you down after you disciplined his disprespectful arse? What did he expect you to do? Cry and take back the detention slip? Bravo on being firm. =)
On Friday I saw Gothika. It was somewhat scary and only an okay movie. It didn't give me nightmares, but it did keep me from sleeping. I kept waking up a lot during the night because I thought someone was going to kill or rape me. Although, the sleeplessness may have been due to a slight onset of fever, as yesterday I too was a tad under the weather. But cheers to me because I was able to surpass it without taking medicine!
Also, on Friday, I tried to get tickets for KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas. Can we say impossible? I couldn't get anywhere online, and my friend, who actually went to a Ticketmaster outlet at Tower Records, had to stand behind hordes of others who already had wristbands!
Yesterday I went to Skidazzle, a ski/snowboard convention. I had planned on buying a snowboard and related gear, but couldn't find any to my liking, so I decided to pass till a later time. I ran into the 1 of 3 only friends I ever made at UCI. And strangely enough, there were a lot of UCI people there. Only Irvinites like snow??
I played Melee with my brother today. I still stink. He played as Jiggly Puff at one point and did win, so I know it can be done! But despite my less than stellar prowess as Meleer, I played with my friend who had never played before and totally kicked his ass. Bwa ha ha...
Speaking of video games, guys must have some kind of special temperament to be able to play video games all the live long day. I mean, I like it as much as the next person, but I could never sit down and play an RPG or whatever for hours at a time. My little brother let me borrow his Gameboy to play Yoshi's Island and even though it's cute and all, I can only take it a few minutes at a time. Chalk it up to short attention disorder or something...
Do you guys remember that brown jacket I bought at AE a few weeks ago when we shopping? I wanted the maroon one instead, but they didn't have my size, so I settled for the brown because I still thought it was a nice jacket. Today I went to American Eagle again and this time THEY HAD IT! Grrr... shouldn't have set foot in a mall again for at least a month... I bought it, with plans to return the old one since I still have the tag and reciept. :)
In other news... still jobless, but not homeless or friendless or loveless, so all is well in my little world. Just 2 mas dias until Maroon 5 fun, or in actuality, 1 more day since it is now monday. Which means, 3 more days until Turkey Day. Woot! AND only 4 more days until... hmm... what now? Hmm, I wonder...

i neglected to mention that you should mark this day...friday, november 21, 2003...
today, i gave my first detention...muahaha. >=)
you guys know i'm not the evil person, and the mere fact that i have to give out a detention doesn't make me happy...but, i think i've let these kids walk over me way too much...and my teacher is supportive of me for writing them up whenever i need to...and after how my classes were simply not cool that day i substituted, i have vowed to be more strict on discipline...
i gave it to this student who chews gum...and the rules say no food, drink or gum...and i know people chew it. my teacher says she doesn't have a big problem with it if the gum stays in the mouth and they're not popping bubbles or anything. anyway, a student says to me...hey, such and such is chewing gum...and i look over at the student and see he's making elaborate chewing gestures. so i asked him, are you really chewing gum or pretending? and he looks at me...opens his mouth..sticks the gum out, puts it back in and chews it like a cow in my face. now, today as you already know, i've felt a bit sluggish...so when he did that i said i'm giving him a detention. he whined and yada yada...said i didn't give him a warning. but we're in the 11th week of school...and i've pretty much had to warn him every week so far...i gave him 60 minutes and told him i've warned him so many times already...he tried to be funny and make all sorts of other excuses like i didn't write his grade level, or he won't serve it...but i told him it's quite easy for me to write another...and when he said he won't serve it [to be funny] i told him i'd just give him a saturday...at the end of class he said to me, ms. nguyen you're not my favorite teacher anymore...and for a moment i thought to myself...that's cool. not that i flatter myself into thinking i actually was his favorite, but maybe kids think of me as their favorite because they can take advantage of me and get away with stuff that other teachers wouldn't. i know as a new teacher i kind of feel like i want everyone to like me because i'm trying so hard to do well and i want others to acknowledge my efforts...but my teacher says i need to get over that because there will be students who won't like me but it's ok...i'm not here to be their friend. so when he said that, it didn't bother me like i thought it would...
well, i think i've gone on long enough about my first detention. =) i don't really enjoy having to punish students but there was a small amount of joy in this first one. =)

i feel like crapola today...i think i'm getting sick. this morning my throat was a little scratchy. i took some medicine, felt a little drowsy, felt worse, took more medicine, still felt worse, came home and took a nap for a few hours...now i feel better than i did earlier today in school but i still feel tired and out of it a little...oh well.
i felt absolutely fine yesterday, but today...ugh. as each period passed, i felt worse and worse...by 6th period, i was ready to pass out. this cold may have been courtesy of a certain master teacher who not only shares his wisdom and advice...but also germs. =) i guess we could hang out this weekend, but i am giving you fair warning that i am germy...although, i'm fighting off this altered state with all my might in hopes that it will go away sooner rather than later.
ok, time to rest. =)

so today was my first day as an official substitute...
now, since this just happened today, my perspective on things may be fuzzy but i think i've come to the point where i can be objective and analytical [but of course critical of myself]. i substituted for my female master teacher...which is great. it's something that i want to do because i think it will give me a good means to practice...but i neglected to mention how today was also my second evaluation day! the last for the semester...yikes.
now, i truly believe that she would not have called me to substitute if it were not for something unavoidable because she absolutely knew that i was being evaluated today, for 6th period nonetheless. so, i got the call at about 530 am to come in...she called me at 6am...and i came in first thing this morning. i was completely unprepared, was not familiar with the bio material to be discussed that day, and on top of that i still needed to prepare some more for 6th period...so obviously i was freaking out. =) and my other master teacher saw how high strung i was...but i think i had every reason to be that way...he said i would do fine.
and actually it was fine...with the exception of the classes i actually teach...3rd and 6th. but the rest of the day was fine...1st and 2nd were great...very polite, quiet and worked the whole period...3rd was just not nice today and lazy as usual...5th was talkative but cooperative and worked...6th was noisy, somewhat nutty...and i made threats that i did not follow through on, which is absolutely horrible because if you say one thing you better stick to it...but it's hard cuz the teacher never punishes or disciplines them for similar behavior so how can i be so authoritative is she is not? i don't know...that is where my reluctance to discipline comes from...but i will talk about it with her and see what i can do...
so teaching the whole day felt ok...as the day went on, i felt more and more comfortable with the material and i think perhaps the students sort of got it..i only hope so. i tried to take the complexity of light dependent reactions and put them into terms they could get...but who knows how successful i was. my timing for lecturing was pretty on the ball, except for 6th...but they were antsy and noisy and like i said, meaningless threats made. after i talk to my teacher when she gets back, i will talk to her about respect from the students, sticking to rules and punishing them for not following them...i am determined. i don't want them to walk all over me and think they can get away with treating me like this when i offer them the respect they deserve. booo on some of these kids...
like i said, i was evaluated for 6th today...and it went disastrously...it seems to whenever i'm observed. it just feels like the kids know and purposely try to crush me...although this is probably my imagination. i talked to my supervisor and he talked about things for me to keep in mind, to use in my own classroom...and he understood that sometimes things go the way they go because it was either a bad day or that's how it usually is - it's what the kids are accustomed to doing and there's nothing i can really do because it's not truly my class...and even if i do take over at the semester, on a technicality it's still not my class...so he said to just keep these things in mind for the future and try to implement things where and if i can...my supervisor is a nice man.
i think what i can take from today is that...despite all the stress, the pressure, the bad behavior and someone evaluating me during the bad behavior...and my desire to still want to go back and teach...i think i'll make it. i need to tweek some things and kick some student patooties into shape, but i think it will be ok. there were some highlights i think...
the students in the other periods seemed to like me and take me seriously...they were nice and asked questions. i talked to some of my regular fifth period students from my normal class during lunch about their quizzes and they all seemed to be ok with it and thanked me for helping them review...and a girl in my third period came up to me during lunch and apologized for how 3rd period treated me today. my male master teacher visited me after 3rd and threw some candy at me...and actually, he told my regular 5th period to come over, say hi and wish me luck and a lot of them actually did...it was so nice...and i think that gave me that little boost of confidence and a happy smile to start 6th period. my teacher also came right before 6th to wish me luck and came after school to talk with me...which were all nice and wonderful things that happened today and i am happy about. it just felt great to see how students responded to me..both the good and the bad. i feel like i belong...plus, it was pretty awesome teaching the whole day and feeling like a real teacher with my own class. it was empowering almost...until some tried to crush my happy spirit. hehe..
despite my frustrations with whatever happened today, i will look at the good things that happened and associate those with my first day of substituting. =)

Actually.. the matrix was great! Unfortunately, it takes a bit of thinking and analyzing before you realize its greatness and most likely this will occur after the film, but honest! everything makes sense!. You really do have to understand some of the symbolism in the movie as well as put together bits of dialogue to understand what happens, why it happens, and how things are different. You have to cut the movie apart as if it was a piece of literature. I think it would be a great movie for english teachers. There's a lot of philosophy in the matrix as well as religious references, mainly drawing from buddhism, christianity, and even a bit of hinduism. It has a whole lotta suspense and good ol' action as well. ^_^
Hey lisa, you know the concert you wanted to go to tomorrow? Remember how we were joking about people going to see Steadman and leaving before the main act (junior senior)? Well, perhaps the jest is remarkably closer to reality than we think. Junior Senior is a well-known band apparently, but.... I'm not diggin them. So go here and find out for yourself....
http://www.vh1.com/artists/az/junior_senior/artist.jhtml
Maybe you've actually heard one of their songs before... It's called "move your feet" and you can listen to a portion of it if you click on their album.
and oh yes!
Joy of joys, I have found the song! It's called Hatsukoi (First Love) by Mayumi Kojima from her album "Me and My Monkey on the Moon"
Ahhhhhhhhhh........ sweet sweet bliss........

Love Actually was a very enjoyable film ^_^ Does anyone else think Hugh Grant and Jason Mraz look a bit alike? Or is it just me? o_O?
Many thanks to Lisa who fed and sheltered us, to Kress for making the vunderbar cookies (QUE RICA!), and to Kim for... uh.... PROVIDING MORAL SUPPORT! yes, thanks go to all. I'm glad you were able to stay out late with us Roo hehe.. We oughta play tennis with roger sometime... Have fun coloring your new found drinking utensil!
And Pat... you were there! I think you need to practice your super smash a bit more... you haven't gone soft have you?
I'm sorry I took so long coming up with what I wanted for my wish list but I honestly hardly ever want anything... maybe that's why my parents haven't kicked me to the curb yet ^_^
Anyway, I feel sorry for whoever got me... but I will provide you more insight into my life so as to help you on your quest.... This is just insight so please do not think this is solely a wish list...
My favorite color is green. My favorite numbers are 4 and 8. I have a thing for quality, functionality, or things of beauty. I usually touch the things that I buy just to make sure I like how they feel. Things that are interesting and might brighten up my room are always nice as well. There's a store at the block with all kinds of interesting kooky stuff in there... It's the one with all the wooden wind chimes and such. I'm not telling you to go there. Just giving you an idea. Pier 1 is also cool sometimes. Don't buy me a lava lamp though, I already have a lava lamp and a glitter lamp =) Other good gifts include things that I can use daily... wallets and watches are an example, and in this situation a very bad example... so don't buy me either, I have 2 wallets waiting in the wings for me to use once my Docker's wallet is retired... one my grandfather bought me, and a nautica wallet as well. I already have a watch, they're expensive and difficult to buy as well.... I am NOTORIOUSLY difficult to buy a watch for, and shoes and sunglasses for that matter as well. Anyway, they're a good gift for any close and significant male figures in any of your lives... Gifts can be very simple as well as long as they're useful or pleasant to look at... something seemingly even trivial perhaps... Did you know there are only 3 or 4 spoons I'm willing to use in my entire kitchen? Tools can be nice as well ( I think that might be a good gift idea for Pat, he NEEDS MORE TOOLS!).
Other things that I like.... music ( I've been having a lot of fun playing the piano lately, I like vivrant flamenco guitar playin, good techno/trance/tribal grooves are nice like the songs from Matrices, the music I like is typically upbeat or a bit more intense then your usual faire but I like things with a nice deep beat), being physical (physical activity is always nice, I like playing ping pong and tennis, I grew up playing nationball, soccer is probably my favorite sport and the only organized team sport I ever really played, DDR can be fun and I can play a good 2-3 hours straight if I play trick mode, spending my summer days at the beach is always wonderful, and I simply haven't been getting enough phsyical activity in the past couple years since I don't have P.E. which was one of the things I liked about high school), I love technology and I'm a bit of a geek ( I built my own computer for goodness sake, I'm always keeping up with the latest happenings in technology, I was flipping through a catalog for professional-grade gear looking for a nice black knee-length lab coat but to no avail, I covet the micro-utility torch which has 1300 degrees Celsius of fine blue-flamed scorching-searing-melting-burning power, solid state pumping 5 megawatt green lasers rock my world, 6M Nitric Acid is my favorite acid, ionic air purifiers are tres cool, the boots I have are acid-proof steel-toed and electro-statically shielded, yeah, I'm a total technological enthusiast), I like driving, sound and silence, light and the absence of it, water, metal, harmony, speed (movement, not the drug), comfort, ripples, reflections, nature, and all sorts of other crazy stuff.. I'm very much a hobbyist so I like things photography, building, customizing, taking things apart and putting them back together... Cannot live without X-acto Knife!
Things I've bought recently...
Charcoal gray v-neck t-shirts from banana republic, white L.E.D. keychain flashlight, urm... I think those are the only two things I've bought recently and those are hardly even recent...
Things I plan to buy for myself...
360 thread-count egyptian cotton sheets (cotton is the fabric of my life) from linens N things. ( they're on sale and I have a 20% off any single item coupon!)
maybe a Cd-burner/DVD combo drive... because not having a cd-burner sucks.. although I think portable usb hard drives are the wave of the future...
New 19-inch monitor
New air-intake for my car so it breathes a little bit better
Running shoes
Razor Blade refills for my gillette mach3
I buy things from all over the place so just about any well-known store has been a victim of my spending =)
As for the wish list I wrote last night... here is a bit more help and clarity... and one addition as well...
Miyazaki films include Grave of the Fireflies, Tonari no Totoro (my neighbor totoro), Princess Mononoke, and Spirited Away..... No Metropolis!
Water Blade (it's basically a silicone squeegee type of thing that's great for cleaning cars)
Is it possible to get a dry-cleaning gift cerficate? lol
A winning lotto ticket... hehe, just kidding...
Yes, I probably seem insane... and perhaps I am.... Anyway, my final and perhaps best suggestion is... You know those times where you tell someone that they really need something or really ought to have something.... Those are good gift ideas.... Although I'm sure no one would like you if you gave them a case of diet-coke, breathmints, and a paper bag with 2 holes in it so you can see... hehehe >=) Alright, good luck to whoever got to be my secret santa, and honestly, I like a lot of things and there are lots of things you could potentially buy for me just so long as it suits my tastes which is what actually makes it tough to buy something for me.... there are just some things out there that fit your personality... so the best of luck to finding the things that suit me! I'll try hard to find something that fits the person I'm the secret santa for as well...
Anyway, if there are any plans... please blog them ^_^

hey guys...i almost forgot, if you have any unwanted canned foods...i am collecting them for the food drive at school. =) so dust off the food that's not good enough for you to eat [j/k...well, technically it's true], and donate!! you can give them to me tonite...or some time this weekend because it ends next friday. thanks!! =)
I am happy for Kress. It kinda melts your heart, doesn't it? :)
Lise, I wil probably be there 4ish as well. Sorry about your car, but fear not, 'tis only a minor setback. You CAN save up for your Xterra.
I curse my dial-up. It takes me days to download large files, such as a 600MB file. I was able to go to my friend's house today who has cable, and it was downloading quite nicely, then totally stopped for no reason I can decipher. So, I still have NOT downloaded the whole file yet. BOO!
Best quote from Sunday's Alias that I meant to post but forgot. "I know a lot of things have changed." Pause. Looks meaningfully at Sydney. "But some things don't." Vaughn Or something along those lines. Can't remember exactly, but it was very touching. :)
I played poker tonight with some guy friends for the first time today, and I was up in the end! They accused me of hustling... meh, I swear it's luck.
14 days guys!! That means two weeks. Vegas baby!
See y'all tomorrow. If I remember, I think I'll bring PS2 and bust-a-move. Time to turn the tables on El Taco. ;)

Awww.. its ok Lisa... You'll get your car someday soon. But dont worry about it too much, cars are supposed to just get you from point A to point B reliably. The longer you keep your current car the more money you save. Hehe, although I'm sure your current car will see it's days of retirement not too far off from now. I think my battery is slowly losing life as well. I'm trying to keep it alive as long as I can. The spark plug change helped and just recently I cleaned the cables that connect to the battery as well as the nodes on the battery and that helped a bit more. Costco is a good place to buy batteries if you have a Costco card ^_^ They sell them for about 40 bucks. Oh yes, and I'll most likely head on over around 4'ish.
You should join the festivities Pat =)

omg...just as i thought to myself...wow, my car has been running great lately, maybe i can save up for that xterra...boom, my battery goes, it's the start of some horrible spiral guys. my car wouldn't start, AAA had me on hold forever and a day, the janitor had cables and got me on my way, i stopped at sears, purchased a new battery and now am crossing my fingers that my car lasts until i can afford a new one. boo on vehicular failures =(.
as for friday, err, tomorrow, i'll be back i'm guessing around 3 or 4, so anytime after then....i don't think we had a set time, just meander over when your heart desires =). but, if anyone is up to seeing love actually tomorrow, i'm guessing the sooner the better =).
kress, i'm glad you had a breakthrough! those are the best! =) woohoo, congrats!!! that means you're doing a sooper dooper job...changing lives, molding minds, touching hearts =). yeah for you.

ok, so hi everyone! today was a great day...
actually, for the most part, it was just a normal day...and you know how 6th period is usually my "trouble" period cuz the students are...a little kooky. well, today as i was helping them fill out their reviews for the upcoming tests, one student who doesn't particularly do anything in the class kept asking me questions and actually did his review. and as i was helping them out he said...hey, ms. nguyen makes science more fun. =)
that just about made my week...a lot of times i just feel like 6th period will kill me or that they will do whatever possible to beat my spirit down...but, when he said that and he didn't say it in a mean or sarcastic way, i was very happy. =) maybe i'll start coming to that class on time now..hehe. they seriously scare me...they act all tough and in your face, but they are generally good...but still, a little scary. anyways, after today i see it's not so bad...maybe they will learn! =)

Helloooooooooooo. Guess who just got back from her second Mrazession in 3 days? Heehee... I must say, the show was fa-boo-lous, as always, but fridays was better. At least as far as energy was concerned. Claremont was very mellow. Not many people dancin' or singin', but hey, I still had a good time. He started off by himself, acoustic and all! This intro also included "The Remedy" which was way awesome. Most of the set was the same, but instead of "Zero Percent Interest" and "Bright Eyes" he played "This Boy is Gone" and "Did I Fool Ya." He encored with the oh so fab "Rainbow Connection" and "Too Much Food." Still no "Dream Life of Rand McNally" but people were still yelling for it again.
As part of his chatter, he asked if people were celebrating birthdays, anniversarys or first dates, etc. A bunch of people started screaming and stuff so he pointed to someone near the front and asked what they wanted to hear played. I was so hoping for Rand McNally, but instead, we got "Did I Fool Ya." Haha... Toca was wearing the red Mraz shirt that I have. It looked quite unusual on him. And guess what? Jason was NOT wearing a baseball cap or trucker hat!! He was wearing a beanie instead. ;) It looked totally cute on him... but of course I would think everything looks cute on him. He made a lot of jokes about peeing. He even left in the middle to go and only the band was playing.
There was supposed to be no cameras, but I didn't see the notice until we got to the venue, so I had brought my camera with me. I didn't want to walk back to my car to put it away, and in addition, I wanted some damn Mraz pics on my digital camera, so I expertly snuck it in. :) At first, I hid it underneath some papers so the girl asked me to move stuff around so that she could look inside. I cleverly picked up my camera and she didn't pay attention to it as she poked around the bag. I got some pictures, but they're not that good since my seats weren't all that close. When he sang "Rainbow Connection" I started recording it, but then security came and told me to shut it down. Eep. Oh well, at least he didn't take it away.
Good thing I had the camera because I was able to get a couple pictures with Steadman! They were totally nice, and this time, Simon came out too. Dude, their accents are even cooler in person. I got souveniors for Kress and Lisa in the form of buttons and stickers. Also, because I promised Lisa, I got her a couple of autographs. Yes, I know I rock. :) I didn't wait around for Jason. I'm pretty sure he didn't come out, but if he did, it's okay since I've already got my stint with him.
All in all, good show and good weekend. Like I said, Fridays show was better, but any Mraz time is a good time. Good night and dream well everyone. :)

oh, and hi albert! *double hand wave*
oh, and i love you boo!! *wink wink* =)
oh, and hi albert! *double hand wave*
oh, and i love you boo!! *wink wink* =)
so, a lot has happened this weekend..hehe =)
as i've mentioned before, there was mraz on friday...that was a kick patootie show. =)
saturday was a little hectic...woke up late that morning since i was tired from friday, i lounged til early afternoon and then got ready...and ickiness started that day, the way only us girlies know. so anyway, i got ready and went to take the cset...i saw gabe, al rabanera and sarah from csuf...the test started at 2 and it lasts for 5 hours!! i took three tests that day...two general science and one biology...each test consisted of at least 50 multiple choice questions and 2-3 essay questions...it was difficult, but not as much as i had anticipated. this doesn't mean i think i passed with flying colors though...we shall see soon enough. it was a long, long period of time...but i at least finished the tests in 4 hours and did not have to stay until 7pm. as i walked out close to 6pm, it was dark...and the testing rooms were freezing with the air conditioning on. anyways, the test was ok but draining...i couldn't wait for it to be over.
i came home, ate some pho and speedily got ready for homecoming...i was tired and felt bloated, but nevertheless i dressed up and all. hehe...i got there right at 745, when i was supposed to... =) a lot of the other teachers were still at dinner at black angus when i got there. angela was there...so i hung out with her a lot, since i don't know all of the teachers there. my teacher arrived and he came over and talked to me quite often throughout the night.. =) he and i took a picture together and all of the staff took a picture together. the nite was quite fun, although i felt a little tired. i saw a bunch of my students there...talked to many of them...one gave me a hug.
i wanted to be all energized, but feeling a bit out of sorts i mostly stood around. it's funny how ironic life can be...when it's your duty to guard a door and you stand by it, people say you don't need to stand by the door...and yet, when it's not specifically your duty to stand by a door, people assign you to watch it...it's odd. and then, when you think you need to dress very appropriately and reserved, you see people of higher positions of authority dress in the completely opposite manner. plus, you get to see the sign of the times...very seductive and promiscuous dresses...extremely high slits, tight tight dresses, cleavage, cut out backs, cut out fronts...although there was an abundance of girls in flipflops and also in slippers...hehe.
there was a mini-debate [not with me though] with my teacher and angela about teachers dancing with students...on one hand, the dancing is very innocent and nothing happens between teacher/student...but on the other hand, there could be misinterpretation of events, rumors started and trouble prevailing. so my teacher and i were on the same page about teachers [especially young & new ones, like another male student teacher there who danced with some students] who should not dance with students cuz it can be potential trouble, although completely innocent...and angela argued that if it's innocent fun, then the teacher shouldn't be afraid to have fun, especially with so many other teachers around. i understand both sides, but as everyone well knows, i am more safe than sorry...thus agreeing with my teacher. why put yourself in a compromising position, one that may cost you a career? besides, there's something wrong when boys 17 and under want to boogie down with their science teacher...that's what i think anyway. hehe...i mean, it's one thing to be a cool teacher...quite another to be a naive one. don't worry..i danced with no one, although if a bunch of teachers were on the dance floor dancing to like michael jackson, i think i would join them...hehe. it's ok to dance with other teachers/chaperones, but with students alone...uh,no. last nite at the dance, i also felt more inclined to dance than when i myself was in high school...hehe. =)
the music was good...mostly hip hop/club style music...i even recognized a lot of them, hehe =) lots of suggestive dancing with bumping & grinding...although a lot of the music reflected this mentality as well...except the actual song bump&grind. =) i had fun...and i'm definitely chaperoning future dances. =)
today was interesting...well, not really. rodel and i went to take pictures. he's so silly.. =) we specifically took pictures so that he could do the pose where he gives me a flower.. =) anyways, i think i look horrible in the picture but my boo is the cutest =) i also realized another thing...i don't have many friends..hehe. and i don't mean this in any bad way...it's just that, usually when you take these pictures you split the wallets...although the girl usually gets more cuz she has more friends to give them away to...but in this case, it is opposite. i seriously could not name more than like 5-6 people to give them to, whereas rodel could think of more than 30. i have no idea what is going on, but it perplexes me. i mean, i like having friends that i'm really close to...but i can't think of more than 5 people to give pictures to?? good gracious..oh well. i will give the remainder of mine to rodel for dispersal. =)
well, that was my weekend...it was great. and now back to school tomorrow...then tuesday off. =) two more days until the 6 year anniversary... =)

The Mraz concert was uber awesome! I thought Steadman did a great job, and they did, but Mraz made them look like nothing. He really puts a lot of heart into his shows and I was impressed to say the least. His band is pretty good too. I certainly liked the very upbeat version of sleep all day and the disco ball made it even better. The "I'm okay" song was cool too.. especially when the guy on the synthesizer laid down the law with the nice bass......
must go to more concerts... must not go broke....
Yes, it was fun being your crazy taxi... Hope you all have a nice relaxing weekend ^_^

the mraz concert was so freaking awesome...he was most excellent =)
he seemed to be a little mellow in the beginning, but wonderful...and at the end of the show, when he kind of just said...thanks LA and left the stage..it really did seem like he rushed off cuz he had to pee..hehe =)
i was quite happy when he came back for the encore and played a bunch of favorites including: the rainbow connection [my favorite!!], curbside prophet, you and i both, and too much food...hooray!! =) it was an awesome show...
on saturday night live, andy roddick is hosting with musical guest dave matthews band. watch and let me know how it is.. =) i'll be regulating the high school kiddies... =)

so today i was evaluated...
i had a class activity planned and some demos set up for them...notes...and a worksheet. i started by having a row of students be the cell membrane and for students to be molecules and pass through the membrane by diffusion. after this, i did a couple of demos for hypertonic [crisp celery in saltwater] and hypotonic [wilted celery in distilled water]...they seemed to get it. next, i put up and went over the notes...then i made them do a worksheet to turn in that day as i walked around and helped them.
the bad part was...the kids were being punks. you would think that when they see a complete stranger in the room with a notepad that might whip them into shape...nope. they were talkative...and not just the same kids as usual, others as well. the talking spread like a horrible virus and more than a few times i had to raise my voice...and several times i had to repeatedly tell students to sit or be quiet...today was also the first time i had to pull a student aside and talk to him...and i know it was an assembly day...and the homecoming game was tonite...and tomorrow is minimum day...and saturday is the homecoming dance and that these may be some sort of excuse as to why they were acting like that, but that is unacceptable to me. i was not happy with them during that period. i think these kids think they can do whatever the hell they want when it's me teaching, but when it's my classroom it shall be otherwise.
anyways, when the bell rang and they left...i felt relieved but horrible about how things went. i had the bad feelings during class as well...and i think some kids saw that i was irritated because one student asked me if i hated teaching...and i said no, of course not..and he said it looked like i did. =(
my supervisor talked to me outside after class...and surprisingly, he said it went well. i thought he'd rip into me for having such chaotic control over the class, but the main critique he had for me was that i should wait until the class is quiet and then talk...and suggested i get a technique to quiet them down...like raising a hand, counting down, bells, whistles...[uhm, i haven't found one where kids won't do obscene gestures, make rude comments or demean them as lower level organisms] all his other comments were nice...he said i had great rapport with the kids, i moved around the room well [although he said while i lectured i need to move more, even though i was moving from the front to the back quite often], i looked very at ease in the classroom [although i was nervous and he said it didn't show at all], my timing was excellent and i went at a good pace, it was good that i made them accountable for their assignment by turning it in, and i gave individual attention to students who needed help...he also really liked my activities. he said they were very interesting and creative.. =) and also that my enthusiasm showed...so i was pretty happy with his comments and he is a nice supervisor because i've heard of many being horribly critical...so all in all, i think it went ok today...and i am my own worst critic.

kim!! =) i'm blogging in case you call when i'm passed out, like i usually do by now! =) ok...two possiblities...
1. you're free for me to pick up my ticket between 12:30 and 2:00 and i'll meet you guys there or
2. you guys meet and carpool over to my school and I follow you over to the wiltern from there (the map says 30 min, so i'm guessing, if we left school at 5, we should be there by 6:30)
see, i'm not arguing, i'm being objective =). i let my kids go at 12:00 and recess is 9:10-9:25 so if you need to call me tomorrow, call me then =)
ok guys, mraz mania!!!! =) woohoo!! =)

lisa! that's enough! i already told you, we're going to wait for you. dude, if you leave at 5 and get to Kress' or wherever we happen to be meeting, we will still make it in time for the doors opening. i've travelled many a time to la in traffic and max the drive was 90 minutes. and even if we're not there in time to park at the front of the stage, i will be wearing my tall shoes. no worries and no more arguing!

kress...GOOD LUCK tomorrow!!! =) you'll do great =).
kim...i'll call you tomorrow when i'm in the area....but i should pick up my ticket just in case =). they're really short on help at the festival friday and there's no way i can back out early. so...i'll be pulling out of the parking lot at 5. how's abouts i meet you guys at the wiltern...if indeed there isn't much traffic, then there's nothing to worry about...i'll just hop in line w/you guys. thanks for you kindness...but i'm the one who's in this mess...you guys don't have to suffer on account of my stupid obligations. i just don't know when to say no =).
hmmm...depending on what time you guys leave, maybe you can swing by the school and i can follow you over there in my car...then we'll arrive together, just in separate transportation. ah well, i'll call you tomorrow kim =)
meetings, meetings, trainings, kids, meetings...so far, my "vacation" is shaping up to be some sort of crazy "workfest" that i don't get paid for...hmmm...i must rethink my choices!
hey, for those up to a movie...matrix and love actually....my weekend picks =) let's go!! =)

Who needs to play phone tag when you have the uncanny powers of an Albert?
Anyway, we should go to Friday's sometime.... Chilli's is good... but there's something about Friday's that I like more...
I hope all of you are having a good week so far and if not then...... then... just remember that a week passes by real quick. =)
Did you know that video and computer games are quite actually addictive? It stimulates the same parts of the brain associated with drug use!
HA! Who needs to waste money on expensive drugs when good ol' Mario can give you the fix you need!?!?!
23 days left.... til turkey day...
24 days left.... til some other important event that Kim keeps referring to.....
